Metroparks Toledo wants more minorities to explore parks through monthly hikes

JULY 8, 2021 — Metroparks Toledo has formed a new hiking group that welcomes underrepresented audiences to the parks, and on the trails. The Metroparks are safe spaces for people to escape, unwind and enjoy nature, however minority groups are not as likely to be trail users.

One Year, 19 Parks, 19 Hikes was designed to invite underrepresented Lucas County residents to explore and learn more about all 19 Metroparks in one year. With more than 12,000 acres of protected natural land to explore, and 198 miles of trails to traverse, there’s plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the wonder and majesty of nature in northwest Ohio.

One Year, 19 Parks, 19 Hikes! Get Outside Yourself and join us for a journey through all 19 Metroparks. Hike, explore and rejuvenate in the beautiful nature that’s found in your Metroparks. Space is limited, register today by calling 419-407-9700. Join us for a journey in nature.
All hikes begin at 3 p.m. on Saturdays:
  • July 17 – Wiregrass Lake Metropark, 201 N. Eber Rd., Holland, parking lot.
  • July 31 — Oak Openings Preserve Metropark,
  • Aug. 14 — Pearson Metropark.
  • Aug. 28 — Cannonball Prairie Metropark.

The hikes are free.
