“The Good Immigrant” is selected as the August Racial Justice Book
The Good Immigrant, a collection of essays written by first and second-generation immigrants, is the selected book of the month for the August Racial Justice book discussion, sponsored by the YWCA of Northwest Ohio.
This is a must-read book for anyone interested in racial justice and the cultural wars surrounding immigration.
As the Washington Post wrote about The Good Immigrant,” “Twenty-six artists and scholars, who are immigrants or have ties to multiple countries, reflect on race, ethnicity, nationality, belonging, and the legacy of colonization mostly in the context of a post-2016 America consumed by tensions over immigration and the question of which bodies are welcome.
“The strength of this collection is in its diversity–of ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, privilege, experience, and writing style. This book is a gift for anyone who understands or wants to learn about the breadth of experience among immigrants to the United States.
“By turns heartbreaking and hilarious, troubling, and uplifting, these “electric” essays come together to create a provocative, conversation-sparking, multivocal portrait of modern America.”
A virtual discussion about the book will be held at 6 p.m. on August 30. To register go to:
