Voting Rights Rally Set for Thursday, June 24th, in Columbus

TOLEDO RALLY FLYER

By DAVE MURRAY, TCC Web Editor

JUNE 21, 2021–There will be a Voting Rights Rally at the Ohio Statehouse from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 24. The Protect Your Freedom To Vote rally is being sponsored by organizations around the state including the Ohio Conference NAACP, Community Mobilization Coalition, Ohio’s Women’s Alliance, Black Voters Matter, Coalition of Labor Union Women, Urban League of Greater Cleveland, Toledo Federation of Teachers, Love in Action Ohio, National Action Network, and others.

The rally will be the place to let the Ohio Legislature hear your voice in opposition to Republican efforts to restrict voting hours, drop early voting the Monday before election day, limit vote drop boxes, and require more voter identification for mail-in ballots. Although the GOP denies it, the restrictions Republicans are pushing are clearly aimed at suppressing the votes of minorities and the poor.

House Bill 294 in Ohio is part of the greater Republican strategy across America to lower voter turnout following President Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump. Trump continues to push the “big lie” that he actually won the 2020 Presidential election because Democrats illegally counted the votes of  people, especially minority voters in large metropolitan areas such as Detroit and Atlanta.

Republicans and Trump couldn’t win at the ballot box, so they are determined to restrict the ballot box in future elections.

If you want to protest these proposed voting restrictions in Ohio, a bus will leave at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, June 24, from UAW Local 14, 5411 Jackman Rd., Toledo. The bus will return to Toledo at 2:30 p.m. To register for a seat call 419-473-2854 or call Anita at 419-450-1301.
