Celebrate Bishop Culp’s birthday on October 23rd
SUNDAY, Oct. 2, 2022–Toledo’s First Church of God will celebrate its long-time pastor’s birthday on Sunday, Oct. 23 in the church’s fellowship hall at 12:30 following Sunday services. Bishop Robert A. Culp has led First Church of God for decades, and has been a pre-eminent spiritual leader in the City of Toledo since arriving in the city in 1961 as a 26-year-old preacher. Now entering his seventh decade of ministry in Toledo, Bishop Culp grew First Church of God into one of the largest African-American congregations in the area, and as a former head of the local NAACP, provided leadership far beyond the walls of his church.
Bishop Culp’s leadership led to the founding of the Toledo Community Coalition, dedicated to improving the lives of members of the city’s minority and urban communities. One of his many initiatives lead to establishment of series of anti-racism community forums in recent years, which brought the Dialogue to Change program to the Toledo. The nationally-recognized program educates citizens about systematic institutional racism that continues to plague America, offering solutions to a intractable problem.
A retirement banquet will be held for Bishop Culp on May 20, 2023, with registration requested by calling 419-255-0097.
