Volunteers Needed for COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center
By Dave Murray, TCC web editor
SUNDAY, APRIL 18, 2021 — The VPROJECT is seeking volunteers to staff an outboard call center to help get the word out about the availability of COVID-19 vaccines.
The call center is being set up at the Lucas County Emergency Operations Center at 2411 Monroe St., Toledo, and needs 10 volunteers for three shifts planned each week at:
- 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
- 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays.
- 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sundays.
Volunteers will be assigned to a socially-distanced call station with a phone, computer, call list, call script, and a Frequently-Ask-Questions sheet.
There will be a 15-minute training session for volunteers, and then you begin making calls to low-vaccination response areas of Lucas and Wood counties. Volunteers will receive a meal and a $20 gift card for spending 2 1/2 hours volunteering. Volunteers do not need medical knowledge or experience. All medical questions will be referred to the health department.
For more information contact Gretchen DeBacker at the mayor’s office at 419-297-7210, or at gretchen.debacker@toledo.oh.gov.
If you would prefer to remain outside, door-to-door volunteers are also needed, by contacting Kwinlyn Tyler at ktyler@co.lucas.oh.us.
The goal of the VPROJECT, which stands for Victory over COVID-19 through vaccination, is to help vaccinate 70% of Toledo and Northwest Ohio residents and achieve herd immunity to COVID-19 in our community. As of Friday, April 17, 37.1% of Lucas County residents 16 and older are vaccinated, as are 42.7% of Wood County residents 16 and older.
The VPROJECT wants to remind the public that the vaccines, approved by the FDA, are safe, highly effective, and that you cannot get COVID-19 from a vaccination; and that COVID-19 vaccines do not impact fertility. COVID-19 vaccinations are free of charge.
