David Murray
Writer, Unitarian & Social-Justice Activist
David Murray, 66, became a member of the Toledo Community Coalition when he was the managing editor of The Blade, Toledo’s newspaper and leading news website. Now retired, Mr. Murray continues his work with the coalition because of his belief in social justice and the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
“I was asked by Pastor Robert Culp to convince The Blade to partner with the coalition to sponsor a series of anti-racism community forums in Toledo. Those forums, and those years working with members of the coalition, opened my eyes to the white privilege I was living and that existed all around me to the detriment of many in the community.”
Mr. Murray is a former mentor, trail guide, and president of Mountain Mentors. The Toledo nonprofit is dedicated to mentoring young men and women, many in the criminal-justice system, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and back in Toledo where they have the biggest mountains to climb.
Mr. Murray is editor of the Toledo Community Coalition website and serves on the coalition’s steering committee. He belongs to the First Unitarian Church of Toledo. He and his wife, Judy, live in Lambertville, Michigan, and are the proud parents of two grown children and two growing grandchildren.
