YWCA program to focus on safety and justice for domestic-violence survivors

By David Murray, TCC web editor

FRIDAY, October 20, 2023–The YWCA of Northwest Ohio’s next Lunch + Learn online program, held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27, will focus on domestic-violence survivors.

Titled SEEKING SAFETY & JUSTICE: The Experiences of Marginalized Survivors, the program will be presented by Rachael Gardner, the YWCA’s Victims Services Director.

A 2021 survey conducted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network found that nearly all survivors expressed fear of retaliation from abusers, having their children removed, and being arrested themselves as the result of calling 911. However, domestic violence survivors of color,  immigrants, and LGBTQ+ reported experiencing higher rates of problems seeking help and how systems responded.

In honor of National Domestic Violence Month, The YWCA NWO October Lunch & Learn Webinar will focus on the experiences of marginalized survivors when seeking safety and justice.
